Our first task was to take a photo of three things in People’s Park: an eagle, a fish, and the third one seemed mind boggling to me. Where do we find a horse on the 18th floor in People’s Park?!
Maybe it’s a painting, I hunched.
My partner, Maya, was born for challenges like these. She knew exactly what we were looking for: the Marco Polo logo! Duh.
I suppressed my embarrassment and scampered to take a quick snapshot.
That’s our cue to move on to our next task, which was to ride a cab to SM Davao to get a stranger’s autograph and to find a random salesperson wearing Columbia shoes.
Whirlwind
Everything went so fast in Columbia Scavenger Challenge where we had to complete a series of tasks while running around the city. And my lungs weren’t durable enough to catch up; I swear I was panting when we left People’s Park.

When we reached SM, we harassed someone named Gerald, got his autograph and made him write a motivational message for us: a trite “you can do it, just be yourself.”

Thank you Gerald.
From SM, we had to ride a jeep to a durian stall in Magsaysay Park to gorge on durian.
Eating the fruit didn’t pose as a challenge (Maya and I are durian monsters). Finding our way to the durian stall, however, was.
I didn’t worry a lot though. Maya was like a ninja; she knew exactly how to teleport there. We rode a jeepney up to Almendras gym; then we hopped on another one that zoomed us to our destination.
We laughed as we drove past by the other teams.
After eating durian, we rode a trisikad to Chimes to take more pictures, as dictated by the to-do list we were holding.
Elusive cab
Then it was time to go back to Abreeza where we started. We had to ride what is now one of the most elusive taxis in Davao: a white Mabuhay.
The hunt for the taxi began when we were sprinting blocks away from Chimes. When our lungs gave up, Maya decided to make a phone call. And magically, the nearly extinct Mabuhay taxi appeared before our eyes.

We reached Abreeza, rode the Merry-go-round, and found our roadblock: the next task told us to take a photo of your partner (with a funny message on his/her shirt) with the Abreeza logo as the background.
By that time, our thinking skills were already beat. We didn’t know what to do. Should we borrow a shirt from the retail stores nearby? We didn’t.
We ended up wasting precious time until I decided to write a funny message on my Columbia dry-fit shirt (ouch!) using a ball point pen. I wrote “This is funny. Haha.” Yeah, I know, very clever.
We finished the challenge within 2 hours and 15 minutes, and won 5th place. Maybe we’re not yet ready for AXN’s The Amazing Race. But next time, I swear, Maya and I will team up again and rule the world.

P.S.: Asa akong mga photos? Nawala lagi sa akong cam :/
